Welcoming Amy and Harry for work experience at Cavendish Communications
This month, Amy and Harry took time out of their summer break between their education to gain work experience at Cavendish Communications and earn a few pennies. We set them some tasks to see how we work and how we look after our customers.
Firstly, we found out a little more about them before seeing what they learnt during their time with us.
What are you doing next with your studies/education and where?
Amy said: In a few weeks, I will be starting my postgraduate degree in Criminology at the University of Kent. I’m excited to progress my knowledge in the field.
Harry said: “I’m planning on going to the University of Exeter to study Politics and International Relations depending on my A-level results.”
What did you learn from your work experience?
Amy said: “During my time at Cavendish I have learnt how to use Abillity (a piece of software) and how to perform a range of tasks within that, i.e. how to change customer’s contract dates, CLIs, and raise invoices. I have also learnt how to use the CRM system, how to raise an issue reported by a customer, and how to order more stock.”
Harry said: “I have learnt how to use Horizon and Excel software to transfer data from one to the other. Doing this has helped to improve my concentration skills and my ability to follow instructions accurately.”
Have you learnt anything about yourself during your time here?
Amy said: “By successfully completing a variety of tasks in different departments I have learnt that I am adaptable. Furthermore, the need to familiarise myself with Abillity and the CRM system has shown me that I am a quick learner. These are key skills I will take with me to future studying and employment.”
Harry said: My experience working at Cavendish has helped me to learn the significance of being self-motivated and enthusiastic, as these skills help to improve my focus and make me work more efficiently. They are especially important when doing tasks that may be repetitive because this will make them more interesting.”
Any final thoughts?
Amy said: “I have really enjoyed my summer working at Cavendish. Everyone has made me feel welcome and at ease. I never worried if I was unsure what to do as my colleagues always helped me and were very patient whilst I learnt how to use Abillity and the CRM system. I was given a variety of tasks to undergo rather than the same thing each day. For example, I have helped the finance team, stock team, and sales team.”
Harry said: “In the time that I have spent working at Cavendish, I have been made to feel welcome, with my colleagues here all being extremely helpful and friendly. I’ve also learnt important transferable skills that I will be able to use in the future, both during my time at university and in full-time work, such as attention to detail and improved concentration skills. This has made my time working here a really worthwhile experience.”
