Celebrating our 30th anniversary
September 2019: Tom is at the Brighton Little Theatre
In 2020, Cavendish turns 30 and the team are giving back to the local Sussex community by volunteering for charity for 12 days over 12 months. So far, Jade volunteered for a day at the Barnardo’s charity shop in Eastbourne that she used to work at, Tracey took part in Seaford Head Beach Clean which was organised by the Marine Conservation Society and Sussex Wildlife Trust, and Nicky volunteered at Hailsham Foodbank’s Holiday Shack and Wealden Activity Day.
This month, Tom Williams, our Stock Controller, volunteered at Brighton Little Theatre (BLT) for the day. BLT is currently in the process of raising funds for the refurbishment of the building, which is to be done in three phases as the finances allow. During his day volunteering, Tom got stuck in helping with the refurbishment work adding a lick of paint to the walls.
As part of the BLT refurbishment plans, next year new toilet facilities and a new lighting box area will be installed. During this time, the Theatre will be “dark” (closed) and productions will take place at other venues.
Tom said: “I have been involved with BLT for some 40 years and it’s like my second family. All the people involved give their time freely and generously and make everyone feel a part of a larger community. I really appreciate Cavendish allowing me to utilise this day as part of their charity day programme.”
About the charity
Brighton Little Theatre is a registered charity that has been in existence for over 70 years. It puts on an average of 13 productions per year at the Theatre itself and twice a year at the outside venues of Brighton Open Air Theatre. Plus, performances are put on at The Minack Theatre in Cornwall every three years.
BLT benefits from more than 200 members and a thriving youth group and all aspects of the society such as committee members, bar staff, backstage, and the production teams are carried out by its members on a voluntary basis. Brighton Little Theatre has a heritage to be proud of and is always looking to raise their levels of standards and community awareness.
