Digital Britain Seminar a Success
Following the success of February’s business continuity seminar, we recently hosted our second breakfast seminar about Digital Britain and the future of telecommunications for small business. Aimed at providing local businesses and organisations with incite and information about how the much publicised high speed communications networks, labelled by the government as Digital Britain, will impact business communications over the coming years. Guest speaker from BT, Marcus Jackson, provided an overview of some of the issues faced by small and medium sized businesses and how increased demand for video and other bandwidth-heavy applications are adding to the demand for faster broadband access. Marcus also outlined how businesses are likely to be investing more in security, digital storage and IT services going forward. Remote working also featured heavily in BT’s presentation and linked nicely with the second topic of the morning, which was an update to HR legislation, delivered by Cavendish Group HR manager, Nicky Calladine. Nicky explained how increases to future paternity leave allowances and growing pressure on employers to provide flexible working for parents with children under the age of 16, will drive more companies to consider home and remote working as part of their business plans. Head of Sales and Operations at Cavendish Communications, David Moorat summed up by saying, “Our aim at Cavendish is to demystify what can appear to be complex communications technologies and deliver easy-to-understand and easy-to-use solutions for both office based staff and remote or mobile workers.” A cross section of local businesses attended the event which was topped off with a prize draw for a Samsung Omnia smartphone which was won by Stella Holman of Stringtown Supplies. 28/04/2010
